The World of Xiphis: The Characters

Welcome back to The World of Xiphis blog series. Last week I shared minor detail concerning my inspiration for the Xiphis Saga. Today's post is all about the characters and my process to their creation.

The main character in The Xiphis Saga is Regina Bortælus. Yes, you will recognize her surname from the Æmienix Chronicles and her father is, indeed, Inanis, from that series.

In the previous post of this series, I shared an image I found on an app, which inspired Regina's appearance. And yes, I did partially base her appearance on myself. But the original art already looked a little like me so I didn't have to make the connection to myself until much later.

Regina was adopted and never met her birth parents. It's not until after she is acquainted with her younger half-sister, Victoria, that she finds the connections and the mystery unfolds.

While Victoria and Regina have the same mother, they have different fathers. This detail is explained, in full, in the first book of the series.

Victoria's father (whom I have yet to give a name), is actually the son of the characters in my paranormal romance, (Knocking on) Heaven's Door. 

I have a habit of letting characters crossover from my other books. I actually love when this happens. I see it more in contemporary novels, but I can't help it in this case.

Another habit I've had when writing my fantasy books is giving the main love-interest this appearance; white hair and light eyes. I do not know the complete reason why, but I do know its because I wanted to make them different from the average American male.

Kalib's character has Xiphisian background, but we learn that his family has been living in Anerathia (the Æmienix) for quite a while. He is a descendant of a Xiphis founding family. This is a detail revealed in the Xiphis Saga, Book Two (The Burning of the Bridge​).

Lord Eadward (eed-war-d) is a character who plays a very important role in Regina's new life as Xiphis royalty. Don't let his youthful face fool you. He's been alive for a LONG time.

When he is first introduced, Regina (and Kalib, and Victoria) refer to him as Eadward the Dark. Mostly because he has weird way of pushing Regina to do well in her training. We later learn that he wants Regina to succeed and how he is weary of his fellow Council members.

 Unfortunately, I do not have art for any other characters at the time I write this post. I will have to make another post and introduce the Council members to you. Yes, you meet them in books, but there's many details I didn't get a chance to share because it would have been a completely new book.
